Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands stretching 250 km in length by 60 km wide and being the most southerly in Greece the nicest climate. Three mountain ranges rise majestically to almost 2,500 metres with the White Mountains forming the greater part of the backbone of Western Crete. This beautiful diverse island has magnificent views in all directions, ranging from mountains – snow capped until early summer, contrasting with flower-filled plains, traditional unspoilt villages, spectacular gorges and of course a huge variety of lovely sandy beaches. The Island has virtually no industry. The light has a very special quality and the seas are crystal clear. Much of the food is organically grown and studies have shown that the original Cretan diet is one of the healthiest in the world. Family is central to the Cretan way of life, neighbours look out for each other and the crime rate is low. The Island is perfect for a new home, a second home or for retirement.

Crete has a long and fascinating history. In mythology, it was the birthplace of Zeus, the King of the Greek gods. The island was home to one of Europe’s first civilisations and over many centuries has been invaded and occupied by different nations each time never accepted fully and always resisted by the Cretan people but nevertheless leaving a very distinct impression on both town and countryside.

Here, where we are based, in Chorafakia on the Akrotiri peninsular with its strong agricultural heritage there is a real sense of space and calm. The cosmopolitan town of Chania is 14 km away, a good distance for easy visits to enjoy the Venetian and Turkish architecture, shops and restaurants and the wonderful harbour the town is most famous for. Chania airport is just 15 minutes drive away.
